Project Management Fundamentals

Projects go wrong for predictable reasons: unclear scope, poor planning, missed risks, and communication breakdowns. This 2-day programme teaches the fundamental project management tools and disciplines that keep projects on track. Based on PMI best practices and adapted for real-world application in Malaysian organisations, it is suitable for anyone managing or contributing to projects, regardless of industry.

Modules

What is Project Management
The project lifecycle. The difference between a project and business-as-usual. Why projects fail and what good project management prevents.

Project Initiation
Defining the project objective and success criteria. Writing a Project Charter. Identifying stakeholders and their interests.

Scope Management
Defining what is in and out of scope. Creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS). Managing scope creep without damaging stakeholder relationships.

Project Planning
Building a project schedule with milestones and dependencies. Estimating time and resources realistically. The critical path method explained simply.

Cost and Budget Management
Estimating project costs. Building a project budget. Tracking spend and managing budget variances.

Risk Management
Identifying and assessing project risks. Mitigation strategies for the most common project risks. Maintaining a risk register.

Communication and Stakeholder Management
Building a project communication plan. Status reporting that keeps stakeholders informed. Managing difficult stakeholders without losing their support.

Project Monitoring and Closure
Tracking project progress against plan. Managing issues and changes. Closing a project properly and capturing lessons learned.
