Graphic Design for Business (Canva and Adobe)
Templates get a team started and then quickly become the ceiling. The moment a piece of work does not fit a template, someone without design training has to make judgement calls about hierarchy, spacing and type, and the result usually looks like what it is. Two days on those judgements: why some layouts read instantly and others do not, what actually creates hierarchy, and how to keep output consistent across everyone who produces it.
Programme Agenda
What Makes a Layout Work
Visual hierarchy, alignment, proximity and contrast. Reading a design to find why the eye goes where it goes, then applying the same reasoning to a piece of your own that has never quite worked.
Typography
Typeface pairing, size and weight relationships, line length and leading, and the spacing decisions that separate professional from amateur output more than any other single factor.
Colour
Building a palette from a brand colour, contrast and accessibility, and the reason a design with six colours almost always looks worse than one with three. Colour in print against colour on screen.
Grids, Space and Composition
Working to a grid, margins and gutters, and using white space deliberately instead of filling it. Composing for different aspect ratios without rebuilding from scratch.
Images and Assets
Choosing, cropping and correcting images, resolution requirements for each output, licensing and stock sources, and removing backgrounds cleanly. Where AI image tools genuinely help and where they produce work you cannot use.
Brand Systems in Practice
Brand kits, locked templates, component libraries and shared folders. Building a system that lets a colleague produce something on-brand without asking, which is the real measure of whether the system works.
Canva and Adobe Express Side by Side
What each does better, moving work between them, and choosing per job rather than by habit. Collaboration, version control and approval workflow.
Production and Handover
File formats and export settings for social, print, presentation and web. Preparing files for a printer, and the pre-flight checks that prevent an expensive reprint. Participants finish a real piece of their own.
